Hello!

My name is Sarah Poole. I provide labor and birth doula services to women in and around the King and Pierce Counties of WA. I have been "doula-ing" for eight years, serving women in both in-hospital and out-of-hospital births, including in birth centers, and at home births.

My services provided include:

Free consultation (either on phone or in person) to decide if we are a good match.

Two prenatal appointments to discuss mom's birth plans and desires and any special plans surround the birth and immediate postpartum period. Mom can invite as many individuals as she desires to these prenatal appointments, often she will choose to invite those who will be at the birth. We would also use this time to discuss the contract and payment plan. Prenatal appointments each take somewhere between 2-3 hours.

Phone/Text/E-mail support from beginning of contract until delivery.

On-call (24-hr) Phone/Text/E-mail support from 38 weeks until delivery (call anytime you think you might be in labor).

Constant support during labor; including massage* and alternative pain relief measures, labor positioning suggestions, reassurance and encouragement, help with relaxation and breathing, being an advocate for the family's wishes when needed, and providing information about birthing options and interventions. *I am not a certified masseuse or professionally trained in massage - I only know basic massage techniques.

Amateur photography during the birth, if desired (using my iPhone 8, photos emailed to you after the birth).

Breastfeeding assistance immediately following the birth (if desired).

Postpartum assistance for mother and baby for up to two hours postpartum (if desired).

One-week postpartum visit to go over mother/baby's well-being, breastfeeding, postpartum healing, and any other concerns.

- Text/Email support for one month after the birth.

Fee:
$1400
($700 due at 1st prenatal appointment, remaining $700 due at postpartum visit)

I am willing to work with clients on a sliding scale and payment plans if there are extenuating circumstances.

Thank you for considering me as your doula!

I look forward to meeting you.

Why Should You Hire a Doula?

There are many ways in which a birth doula be beneficial to your birth experience. Here are my top ten!! 1. A birth doula can help reduce negative feelings and reinforce positive feeling’s surrounding a mother’s birth experience – her birth experience will be something she will remember for the rest of her life, and you want her to have a positive experience! 2. A birth doula can reduce the need for labor-induction drugs, forceps-assisted delivery, vacuum-assisted delivery, and cesarean sections. 3. A birth doula can reduce the mother’s request for pain medications such as epidurals, if this is something she would like to avoid. 4. A birth doula can be a vital source of informational, physical, and emotional support to a woman before, during, and after her birthing process. 5. A birth doula can help the mother experience a shorter labor with fewer complications. 6. A birth doula can bring a sense of calm and control in an otherwise chaotic situation. 7....
What is a Doula and Why Should I Want One? You may or may not have heard of a doula before. Maybe this is the first time you’ve heard the word “doula”. If so, you probably are wondering “What is a doula?” And secondly, you are probably wondering “Why should I want one?” If you’re curious to learn more, read on! What is a doula? A doula is an additional support person for the mother-to-be. The word doula actually means “woman’s servant”, and that is just what they do – serve women. There are two types of doulas: birth doulas, and postpartum doulas. They act like guides throughout a mother’s pregnancy, labor, and postpartum experience, helping the mother to find resources and get answers to all of her questions regarding her birth experience. Birth doulas are trained and experienced in providing emotional support, physical comfort measures, and unbiased information to the laboring mother and her partner or other support persons. They also provide informational and emotional supp...
